As you read this, bear in mind:  Off-topic Sunday.  A mash-up of off-topic and on-topic today.

James posts an update in the forum:

Update time!

It took two weeks but I got my glasses re-lenses to -4.75. In the intermediate period I used an old pair of -5.25s. Oh how my eyes got tired and started hurting… Good way to reduce close-up time though, when you can’t stand looking at anything!

Now, a “problem”. When I got my -4.75 prescription it allowed me to read 20/30 (just) and not 20/20 – the plan was to use it for my normalised prescription. But with these new glasses… 20/20 is clear. Weird. So I bought some contact lenses, -4.00 and -4.50 (equivalent to -4.25 and -4.50 if glasses) – note I was prescribed -4.75 contacts only a few weeks back. I’ve put the -4.00s in, as a laugh, to see how blurry the world would be… And I read read 20/20 on the Snellen. I can even make out 20/15. This is with fresh eyes and natural lighting – i.e. ideal circumstances – but still, wow.

In other words, it looks like my eyes have made a dramatic improvement in only the last couple weeks. Shame that I’ve wasted money reglazing my glasses to something which is already too strong, but the overriding good news is I’m at ~-4.00. I was only thinking I’d achieve -4.00 next year.

My fear is these last months I’ve been free, so have been able to minimise close focus and maximise relaxation and outdoor time. But next month I start a new job, very likely in an office in front of a computer. I won’t let it halt my progress though!

I’ll do my cm measurement tomorrow morning (fresh eyes) and see what it is! I haven’t measured it in a while, but I’m pretty sure it’s improved – I still read quite a lot, and have noticed I seem to be able to hold the text further away. It was ~23cm before.

And just like that James becomes an expression of my world changing eyesight recovery system.

Kidding.

Really though, how long before all the student success goes completely to my head?  Just look at the progression.  Now we’re starting to have video.  Instead of puppeteering others to do my bidding, my face is all over the site.  The signs are all there.

You figure I’ll go totally out of control eventually.  Like the kid who gets discovered on YouTube and becomes some mega rockstar.

What’s his name?

Just ignore the minor detail that I’m 40 and can’t sing.  I’m going to be the future Justin Bieber of alt-health.  Driving Ferraris recklessly around LA, in the news every other week for my outrageous cocaine or whatever-else recreational drug habit.  And something about the visiting dignitary’s twin daughters.  Scandalous scandals.

And that’s probably the only way to dig this whole myopia topic out of the dusty corner it lives in today.  Dusty nobody-cares academic and research science.

People don’t care about research science.

But there’d be a few million teens watching me crash the Ferrari with the silly sparkle wrap job in a plume of cocaine dust on Hollywood Boulevard, and the scattering twins and paparazzi.

“Eye Guru Goes Off The Rails Again.  Is Nothing Sacred?!”

And suddenly kids would watch YouTube videos of the lens industry heretic talking about how optometry is a crock of sh**t, and that their eyesight is being mined for maximum profitability.

Hey.  I did say off-topic Sunday.

To add to your sense of amused foreboding, we do also have an influx of  .. 41 Youtube subscribers.  Maybe not quite yet the revolution at hand.

But still.

41 tiny cracks in the hundred billion dollar lens-industry fort’s wall.
