Back Tomorrow (Hopefully)
The trouble with adventures, getting work done.Lots got in the way today, mostly entirely unusable Internet till just a bit ago (around 11PM local time). Spent most of the day in the sun riding, avoiding chickens and potholes, made it to the overnight spot just to find the site being completely down. Yikes.Got that fixed up at least, but lacking coherence to talk about anything myopia related today. Hopefully the site downtime didn't affect you, and I'll be back tomorrow to [...]
Off Topic: Find Your Inner Adventurer
We talk a lot about the mechanics of vision improvement, about science, about student experience, how-to guides, lately even videos and other related things. I try to put in as much value and tangible help as possible, so that no matter when you first end up here on the blog, you'll read something truly useful. That said ...We talk very little about why I actually got here, which by extension is why this resource even exists. Let's visit this neglected and [...]
(Fun) Eye Yoga Fluff vs. (Boring) Myopia Control Science & Data
Quick post today, to point you to a recent YouTube video I uploaded. The topic is about fun but useless vision health ideas that grab the public imagination particularly effectively, vs. the less engaging (though more realistic) concepts we get from looking at biology and clinical studies. It seems that certain personality types are more drawn to the side of shanti-shanti, relative to others who prefer the more methodical approach. As long as either makes you happy, by all means! Here's the video:Thumbs up, subscribe [...]
Alzheimer’s Disease and those Billion-Dollar Industries
Written By DespinaContributing OptometristIt's not just myopia incidence that is booming. By 2050, it is estimated that there will be nearly 115 million people with dementia worldwide. Another startling fact, that many would like, once again, to blame on genetics. Each and every one of you will, at some stage, be affected by some form of dementia, be it a parent, grandparent, friend, neighbour, or even you. Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia, is the leading cause of death among [...]
How I Went From -5D To -3D (& Why You Shouldn’t)
Recent YouTube Jakey post, about my own journey from -5D to -3D glasses. And yes, I do get confused on locations. Pretty sure that was the first Laos round, though there was either there or Cambodia that -3 started working well. If only Jake had kept better logs ... (like you ought to).Either way, some possible lessons there for those who like to monkey with lenses, skip the learning process. You always come back to RTFM eventually, after a few rounds of "meh, [...]
Addicted to Lenses
Written By DespinaContributing OptometristJake's recent blog entitled, "Shh, don't tell them how to fix their eyes," got me thinking. You can take a horse to water but you really can't make him drink. There really is no point preaching about anything, reversing myopia included. Yes, limiting your enthusiasm to one sentence sounds about right.Think of smokers. They know the health risks, potentially life-threatening ones at that, but may do nothing about it, either because they don't believe it will actually [...]
