Diopters. We stopped calling glasses “prescriptions” a while back, since we don’t believe a reasonable educated individual needs a so-called professional to tell them which piece of clear, curved piece of plastic to buy. (or conversely, keep you from making your own diopter choices)
If anything, we believe that most of the mainstream will give you more diopters than you need, causing progressive myopia and all sorts of long term risky side effects. We feel strongly about education you on the subject of testing your own refraction, of making your own diopter choices. Glasses are far less dangerous than lots of over-the-counter drugs! Read this section for all things related to diopters, learn about the fascinating world of bending light (to your will).
Myopia Control: Are Optometrists Actually The Right Choice?
Myopia control is a tiny, tiny niche. Tiny to a degree that @endmyopia basically rules the whole lot of it, if we're going to look at cumulative amount of diopters reversed. That's the only metric that matters. And no question, we get results, where most others are continuing to grasp at straws. But ... there's a but, more on that in a moment.Meanwhile, are we too humble? It's actually true. Over the years I've met, talked to, conspired with, argued theories with most [...]
Focal Plane (aka Diopter) Tuning
Most optometrist intervention in your eyesight is like applying a sledge hammer. There's not exactly a whole lot of finesse in the common, mainstream approach. You come, you sit, you get cranked to 11.It does accomplish the intended goal, of instantly "fixing" your eyesight. And that's fine. If you care about your eyes as much as you would a disposable Casio watch, then by all means. 11 is perfect. Going to McDonalds if you're hungry solves the food problem quickly and [...]
When Should You Reduce Your Normalized?
I finally updated the much neglected FAQ with this question about normalized reduction. Reposted here:James asks in the forum:I was wondering when the best time to reduce the normalized prescription is. I feel like with past reductions I may have done them earlier than necessary, resulting in less enjoyable vision and slower progress.I think I heard from the blog or forum that when you can see 20/20 consistently for two full weeks it is a good time to reduce. Is [...]
What You Should Think About: The Overprescription Check
Steve makes a great comment in the forum:I can definitely relate to the cranking it to 11 tactic. Years ago, I always wondered why my optometrist kept going even after I could see the bottom line (20/15) quite clearly already. Of course, that was before I knew about overprescriptions and before I even knew this site existed. But I ate up the minus lens and followed the herd. Now, I let them bring me to 11, then say “ok, so now, [...]
Your Glasses: Does Your Ciliary Muscle Love Them?
In video format today, a quick explainer why your eye's focusing muscle might love (and be better off) with glasses. This is in response to a few recent forum stories where students (before finding @endmyopia) went no-glasses, cold turkey. That's often unwise, not beneficial, and rather quite frustrating, and I want to make you feel much more comfortable about the premise of some lens wear.Caveats, of course, to glasses. I'll explain in the video.Only in video format today since this one [...]
Do You Have Astigmatism And Don’t Even Know It?
Brandon posts in the forum:Been moving at a pretty good pace in the course, in the middle of my first equalizing prescription change. Its been one of the more interesting events in the myopia reversing process. Had this moment where I could see everything outside clearly but my brain had no sense of depth, like looking at a painting with both eyes open. My brain was pretty confused that week, now its fine.Anyway, I’ve been wondering about something considering my [...]
