Diopters. We stopped calling glasses “prescriptions” a while back, since we don’t believe a reasonable educated individual needs a so-called professional to tell them which piece of clear, curved piece of plastic to buy. (or conversely, keep you from making your own diopter choices)
If anything, we believe that most of the mainstream will give you more diopters than you need, causing progressive myopia and all sorts of long term risky side effects. We feel strongly about education you on the subject of testing your own refraction, of making your own diopter choices. Glasses are far less dangerous than lots of over-the-counter drugs! Read this section for all things related to diopters, learn about the fascinating world of bending light (to your will).
Semi Secret Low Myope No-Glasses Trick
Matthew posts in the forum: Original thread If you have forum access, I suggest you hop over for a quick read of my comment to Matthew, for some low myope tips. Short version: You want to focus on equalizing when you're that close to getting rid of your glasses altogether. Why? Because it reduces the subjective disruption of your vision when you take off your glasses. Having different focal planes for left and right eye with glasses, then not having [...]
Pro Topic: Differential Now, Normalized In 4-6 Weeks
Semi-pro topic, this one. A supportive optometrist is a great idea for any type of lens adventure. Be aware of local laws regarding prescription lenses. This as usual, not optometry or medical (as if!) advice. Sometimes we get students, just starting out with BackTo20/20, already having changed their distance lenses, as well as the close-up. Not ideal! This erroneous approach tends to manifest in forum posts, trying to untangle what now doesn't flow with the initial set of instructional sessions. [...]
(Pro Topic) Are You Getting Double Vision With Reduced Diopters?
This, absolutely a pro topic. If you're a casual reader, skip this one!As you start practicing active focus with reduced diopters, you realize that your environment doesn't fade straight to blur, from clear vision. Instead there is an intermittent layer of double vision, almost as though your eyes are trying to hang on to the clear image, and slowly losing the battle over to blur. We talk about the causes of this double vision experience quite a bit here in the [...]
Pro Topic: Normalized Glasses Or Full Prescription At Night?
You're outside. The sun is setting. You are wearing your normalized glasses, which were just perfect for clear vision, up until now. You're still walking. Sunset is turning into dusk, it's actually getting dark now. Your blur horizon has been shrinking, double vision image has been increasing, but it's been all a nice, even progression so far. But now, just from one moment to the next, it's too dark. And you just can't get any get any focus at all. [...]
Optometrist Forced To Admit: She’s Legal To Drive!
This is a bit of a crazy story, that Stefanie is telling. Strap in, because she went from, what, 20/70 to 20/40 in a month? Legal to drive with a 1.5 diopter lowered prescription? Is that even possible? What is going on over here, in wizard land? Check this out: The title here was a bit clickbait-ey, I admit it. The optometrist is obviously pretty cool. Look at those numbers, though! February, we're starting with a -8.5 diopters. March, we're down [...]
Went To See Optometrist For New Contact Lenses
There's so much great e-mail coming into @endmyopia everyday, I really wish we could get a lot more of it into the blog. I think of a lot of what I'm reading, like small cracks in the mainstream, old- timey lenses-are-forever narrative of retail optometry. Take a look at this one, for example:More and more people continue to have this kind of experience. Their optometrist gets to measure reducing myopia objectively, and before long there will be enough open minded, forward thinking [...]
