I generally try to keep the stranger musings in the forum / for students, where that kind of quasi philosophical discussion probably belongs.  When you’re already well into the mechanics of improving your eyesight, it might be entertaining to contemplate some of the underlying strings being pulled in your head.

What weird string things, you ask?  Here’s one for you:

Most people aren’t going to change anything about their lives, because they subconsciously believe that what they got, is exactly what they deserve.

That’s deep stuff, Jake.  What’s this, self-help day?  Going all Deepak Jake-ra on us?

Broke?  Fat?  Overworked?  Stuck in an abusive relationship?  They’ll complain and huff and puff, but watch them change nothing about it.  Watch them break up with the abusive one, and wind up in the next equally abusive relationship.

An internal barometer that says, yup, this is what you deserve.

This is one possible explanation as to why the vast majority of people won’t take off those glasses, even if you offer them a clear and simple way out.  They’ll smile and nod, and if pressed, question the scientific legitimacy and mutter about their busy schedule.  What they won’t do though is think, hey, I’m better than this nerd-goggles-wearing, squinting dork that my parents let retail optometry turn me into.

Harsh, Jake, you say.  I know.  But why not say it how it is?  It’s not a handicap after all, glasses and myopia.  If you’re already here, on this site, with the eye guru, then myopia has already become a choice.

Did you know that glasses, especially when started during childhood, inhibit fine motor control?  Makes you seem more dorky, when you’re all awkward shuffling around the hallways, stuttering at girls (or boys.  or whoever).  And then you internalize that person, and there you have it.  Like peering out at life through two little plastic tunnels.

Yes harsh.  Also, reversible.  Also, told to you by one of the dorkier specimen out there.  I can say these things.  And you can stop being Squinty McSquintyface anytime you choose.

Here’s the video edit of this topic:

Deprogram that nonsense.  You are better than glasses, contact lenses are just wishful no-glasses thinking, and LASIK should only ever be a storyline in a Dr. Evil movie plot.

You’re not broken, your eyes aren’t, and you’ve got to start chipping away at all that subtle, internalized “this is all I deserve” baseline of your subconscious thinking.  And if you don’t think any of this is real, and you’ve got moderate to high myopia, then … sure, I could definitely be wrong about all this.

Denial, perfectly acceptable health strategy.

Babysteps.

You’re here, reading, so you’re already on the right track, even if you’re perhaps just a blog reader right now.  Maybe you’ll do a little centimeter measurement or two, maybe you’ll venture out and get a reduced lens for your close-up.  Maybe you’ll start some active focus, and find yourself seeing a little better, in just a few short weeks.  Who knows.  It’s all here, waiting for you to try out.

Also, give the video a little likey-like, if you do feel charitable.

Cheers!
