I don’t mean to be dramatic today but this e-mail has been sitting in my inbox for days.  It’s high time I share it with you.

Mike had an optometrist experience that is less than encouraging.   Sabotage is a word one might be inclined to use here, giving Mike no chance to get a lower diopter prescription.  I had a hard time reading the whole thing without feeling a bit frustrated myself.  And while there’s possibly always more to the story than we may know, I find it hard to imagine returning to someone who would examine my eyesight in this fashion.

(Apologies about no paragraph breaks here again, I’m reposting these messages exactly as I receive them)

Here we go:

That’s some police state style optometry right there.

Don’t argue with people if you encounter this kind of scenario.  Deep breath, smile, walk away.  There are lots and lots of polite, friendly, helpful optometrists just waiting for you find them (check some of the success stories, and included positive optometrist mentions).

Realize that how a specific individual may choose to conduct their exams, is how they do it every day, for possibly thousands of patients.  You’re not going to get special treatment, and your curiosity and disagreement may just cause unnecessary emotional stress for all parties.

Hey, it’s cool!  She wants to tell you what’s right for you and you disagree?  No problem!  It’s just not your bag, baby.

Deep breaths.

On the other side of it, wow.  Can you believe that’s how some people expect you to bow to all authority, imaged or otherwise?  And more curiously, it must be fine for a whole lot of people who are being “treated” there!

Before we sign off, let’s also look at some good news, to end this post on a positive-vibes note.
