Early on, when I started to put the core part of our clinic program online, I knew that the Web would be a challenge.  A challenge for you, not having my office as a reference, not getting a real life handshake, not having the people and place to relate to.

Without all that, this is just another Website on the internet.  I realized that we would need to have some way to interact in a fashion that others could follow.  I wanted transparency in the process, and also a place for participants to exchange ideas, discuss their progress.

So I added the forum to the site, and encourage participants in the Vision Improvement Courses to use it, instead of e-mail, to bring up questions and feedback.

That all worked reasonably well (other than the very, very slow forum page load times, for a while), until a post on July 2nd:

It is wonderful to see all the posts of great progress but I am not one of them.

I am only doing the close up work currently so maybe I do need to buy lenses for long distance so I can do that work too?

Things I have been doing since the start of the programme (3 months ago).

[details removed, find the whole post here]

My computer glasses do not feel like they have gotten stronger since the improvements in measurements.

In general, without glasses, I don’t feel there is any improvement in what I can see – guessing because I haven’t really made much improvement?

Is it time I started doing the distance focus work now and actually get a reduced normal prescription..I have been delaying this as tight on money for glasses since being ripped off by selectspecs (which could have been used for these)..but will try to find some if this is something I just to do now.

Any help in feeling like things are going right would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kelly

Ouch.  That’s quite a testimonial to the program having failed.

If you are in my position and you see this, what can you do?  I wanted transparency, and here it is.  A nice, detailed, this isn’t working for me, out there on the site.

I like all the positive, good results feedback, not for myself, but for you, my reader.  Several pieces early on require a leap of faith.  Finding active focus, being an important one.  It just takes a while, and you have to trust yourself that it’s in there somewhere, if you just keep looking for it.  When you see others, in quantity, attest to it working, it gives you motivation and faith, and you persist till you get it.

On the other hand, when people say they can’t find it, you too might doubt yourself.

But there it was.  I knew what was missing, but we have to stay honest, and take the successes and failures, however they arrive.  The post stayed there, and while most other accounts since have been positive, this one was out there as a check mark in the ‘Alex failed to deliver’ column.

Finally though, today, a month and a half later, Kelly posts an update:

Finally…
so over the past month I have finally got the hang of the focus thing.

Just quickly took a cm measurement today while doing some focusing. So I can read a book clearly at 34cm now..so have improved from 30/31cm. I can also clear the text when it is held about 40/41cm away from me but can only hold this for a few minutes.

I have been using glasses more often now as opposed to be in the blur constantly. I bought a pair of -3 which it seems to be the same strength as the last prescription pair I was given a few years ago. It seems that my glasses I had were -3 but my last prescription was for -3.50/-3.75 (they must be the glasses I refused). They seem to be fine for using right now as I can tell I need some improvement.

Yey improvement :) I am going to take some more measurements tomorrow to see if anything else has improved too.

I must admit it took a while for my eyes to wake up. I think secretly I have enjoyed the blur so much that I didn’t want to use glasses (so actually taking them off completely probably isn’t a good idea)…I couldn’t really do the focusing stuff to begin with and it took a good while just to be able to do it, but once I could do it a little bit it was really easy after that and taking Sunday off really helps too – Monday is always a great day for focus pushing :)

A few things to take away from this:

  • It’s most effective to go ‘by the book’ with the program initially.  All the pieces have a place, you’ll progress best if you follow it closely.
  • Sometimes, finding active focus takes time.  Persistence does pay off.
  • Kelly can (briefly) get 10 centimeters (!) in improved distance, now.  That’s the notable difference between a -3.25 and a -2.5 prescription.
  • Lastly, posting the update in the forum.  I’m grateful for the follow-up, and happy about the news.

There is the centimeter calculatorif you haven’t tried it for yourself yet, the whole topic in the forum, and of course the Vision Improvement Course, that finally, after some trial and error, helped Kelly start seeing good results.

Congratulations to Kelly.  I hope that we will have many more readers of this site and program report similar good news.

Enjoy!
