Today’s post is actually coming from Sasha’s notes in the support forum.  If you are working to improve your eyes, this should be motivating for you.

quotes-bluei’ve just been going easy, mostly with the -2 prescription, sometimes without glasses when the weather is too nice to look at it through glass. i was also fairly busy with other things and was not paying special attention to vision. my normalised prescription is so weak though that i have to pull focus a lot of the time to do things (e.g. read labels in a supermarket) and i do it habitually anyways when i just want to see something more clearly.

anyways, i largely forgot about it for 2 weeks.

two days ago though when i woke up in the morning (after long restful sleep), something seemed weird and i realised that i can actually see the two top rows of the snellen that is hanging on the opposite wall (2-3 m away). i never really looked at it without glasses as it was pointless. i measured my centimeters and they were 33/29, which is clearly better than the previous peak of 32/26 or so a month ago. so i am really pleased with that, especially that it seems to have happened almost completely on autopilot without making much conscious effort (apart obviously from reading at the maximum distance and wearing the glasses only for distance vision), and stopping to read / write whenever i feel strain plus taking walks, which already was a habit of mine anyways.

was quite happy as the changes since january amount to more than half a diopter (started with 30/23 cm at peak three months ago, and before i learned active focus my first log entry is actually 28/13). to be honest it makes me optimistic that maybe i’ll in fact drop a diopter or so by the end of the year.

also my weaker eye seems to be improving faster, wonder if this is because it started from a significantly higher value (i understand that higher diopters disappear faster) or if it is actually because i am pushing it a bit harder deliberately (sometimes read with the other eye patched, and the normalised prescription is equal for both eyes). in any case both eyes are apparently working (was worried that i undercorrected the weak eye too much), which is good.

so i just send that as a status report.

by the way i seem to have a similarly perfectionistic and impatient approach as Jake apparently (judging from several recent blog posts), so i am quite glad to have both Alex’ “slow and steady” balanced version but also some tolerance and forgiveness for those who are impatient and want results NOW and overpush it ;-)
